Understand operation, component relationships, and the existing system's constraints.
Measurement and geometry documentation, with models or engineering drawings.
Develop reproduction or improvement designs from the analysis.
KNA helps understand and reconstruct components, assemblies, or machines when documentation is unavailable or a design needs development. Existing objects provide information about geometry, function, interfaces, and operating conditions. Results can support documentation, spare parts, redesign, or modification.
Common needs include parts without drawings, discontinued spares, imported machines, assemblies needing models, and prototypes without engineering documentation. Customers must be authorized to provide the objects and use their design information.
The process starts with function identification, object inspection, and measurements suited to the required precision. Data becomes a 3D model, assembly, or engineering drawing. Autodesk Inventor and CAD workflows can reconstruct component relationships and prepare documentation.
Worn or damaged components do not always reveal original design dimensions. Interfaces, fitting tolerances, mating parts, and usage information must be considered together. Data uncertainty needs clarification before the design is used for manufacturing.
Similar geometry alone does not prove that a part will work. Materials, loads, tolerances, mechanisms, manufacturing processes, and operating conditions determine suitability. A design can reproduce a component or be developed for new requirements.
Redesign can examine manufacturing and assembly access, component count, materials, interfaces, and reliability problems. Where mechanical changes affect motors, sensors, PLCs, or automation, integration requirements are also reviewed.
Outputs can include CAD models, assemblies, component drawings, engineering drawings, spare-part designs, layouts, modification designs, or engineering documentation. Prototyping, fabrication, and testing can follow as agreed; they are not automatically included in CAD work.
Send object photos, function, approximate dimensions, damage condition, mating components, any remaining drawings, required quantity, and the final objective. This helps define measurement access, precision, output formats, and verification of developed components.
